SERVICE -- 👎 poor
The location/address & marketing presence is a bit in disarray, following the Hilton merger...
It's hard to find information like phone numbers or menus online. Legacy Links (for example: themodernhonolulu.com/waikiki-restaurants) weren't migrated and don't redirect to useful/updated information.
Delivery & rideshare apps also have a hard time with the location, with only a reference to the spa (which has been closed for 2 years) as a pick up point. Very confusing for first time travelers.
Check-in took a bit long but the staff is friendly & personable. It was also nice to see Tap payment support.
Calls to restaurant and/or reception often went unanswered, on multiple attempts.
Spacious elevators, albeit slower than normal & make horrendous sounds when closing😱.
Late checkout (1hr) offered.
$35 resort fees.
ROOM [Standard Room, City View] -- 👍 great
A large room with a beautiful & simple aesthetic.
While it is comfortably spacious for 2, there's very little storage space for personal items.
High cleaning standards were comforting & our balcony view was sublime 😍. The 2 outdoor chairs weren't very comfortable nor well-maintained though (rust).
BED -- 👍 good
King bed sleeps very well. The pillows weren't king size nor optimized for comfort though.
Sheets were coarse & we didn't care for them, but the down blanket was unexpectedly soft, cozy, & eco friendly! (Recycled microfiber polyester) ♻️.
⚠️The base is sturdy but protrudes quite a bit, so mind your shins.⚠️
BATH -- 👍 ok
Good line of bath products provided (Crabtree Evelyn).
The sink design is beautiful -- very wide and has great usability.
Amazing water pressure throughout to fully take advantage of the 5-spray pattern shower head.
Glass shower door is a bit misaligned and required some effort to fully close.
Towels are on the larger side.
TV -- 👍 good
Basic programming watchable on a Samsung flatscreen HD display w/swivel base.
No casting/screen share functionality enabled, but the ports were easily accessible if you happen to bring cables/streaming sticks.
⚠️HDMI input wasn't compatible with latest MacBook, so YMMV.
The remote is very hygienic, but the functionality is poor & unintuitive.
WI-FI -- 👍 ok
A basic complementary behind a web portal & a premium paid offering is available.
Free tier was good for light surfing & generic multitasking; not so much for over-employed video conferencing and engineering workloads.
Good QoS for mobile devices.
--Nerd Stats--
19-22 Mbps download
14-19 Mbps upload
FOOD -- 👎 poor
DoorDash/UberEats friendly.
Restaurant room service was available but we weren't able to reach the restaurant over the phone after many attempts & gave up.
Mini coffee bar, microwave, & small (15-30") mini fridge in room.
Ice machine on floor.
NOISE -- 👎 poor
Very noisy being in the middle of the city.
No noise issues from neighboring walls, but the ceiling is another story, YMMV.
RECOMMENDATION
Final Price: $244.97/night
Was it worth it: no
Best part: views
Just "ok".
Maybe post-merger it will become more noteworthy.
I could see myself reviewing it again, but lukewarm recommendation today.
