The Brown Palace Hotel & Spa, Autograph Collection

SERVICE & CHECKIN -- We had an issue with our booking via Expedia (wrong pics & sqft) but Adrianna went above & beyond to salvage our birthday staycation; she's, hands-down, the best Marriott representative I've interacted with all year.

The bellman works incredibly hard here (remember to tip!) & other staff were notably courteous, attentive, very well-dressed (Morgan's glasses 🔥).

Elevators are quite tiny but there are only 9 floors so its tolerable. Conversely, this is a building where taking the stairs is an enjoyable scenic route-- there's stained glass at the very top!

ROOM -- (Guest room, Junior suite) -- I'm usually stunned by the lobby and underwhelmed by the room... but not here. The decor is surreal, radiant, & opulent from entrance to bedroom.

The guest rooms have a very modern, but classy/classic, aesthetic & are well-maintained with visibly high cleaning standards. It goes without saying that the stock is comfortable, high-quality, & meticulously-chosen. The rooms also have lots of seating options, an ergonomic workspace, & plush carpeting. The traditional guest rooms are a bit cramped for 2, so aim for a junior suite if traveling with companions. The city view rooms are perfect for people watching.

cons: AC is loud (but not 'noisy') & the coffee tables are extremely low (watch your shins)

BED -- No need to get into thread count, cotton blends, or pillow sizes-- there's a cloud where the bed should be...'nuff said.

Perfectly firm, soft, supportive, & clean, with luxury linens & a cozy microfiber duvet.

BATH -- Immaculate cleaning standards in the bath; an American style bathroom equipped with a walk-in rainfall ceiling shower, beautifully maintained ceramic tiling, & a double vanity. And the TOTO toilet is proof they mean business. Towels are large and in great condition. The bathrobe is weighty but I found the texture more than satisfactory (TY Presidential collection is still my preferred robe).

Showers pre-stocked with Essential Elements BATH (Gilchrist & Soames).

cons: no bathtub; no slippers provided; 2 shower heads instead of adding a hand-shower

TV & ENTERTAINMENT -- 2 (dated) ~40" Standard Definition LG TVs, 1 on a swivel bases & the other wall-mounted in the common area, controlled by the infamous MarriottBonvoy remote and Set Top Box (STB);

This configuration surprised me because it clashes with the lux nature of everything else 💔: budget brand, dated model, user-unfriendly remote, immobile mount, slow TV OS.

GREAT for their experience management & IT, but mediocre for guest satisfaction.

Wi-FI -- Complimentary (unencrypted) wi-fi behind the familiar Marriott portal (remember to opt-out of tracking!).

Signal strength, coverage, & QoS were great, but throughput is abysmal. Not ideal for a workcation:

--Nerd Stats--

2-5 Mbps

4-6 Mbps

0% packet loss

19 ms latency

55 ms latency

--Performance--

Video streaming - poor

Online gaming - poor

Video chatting - average

FOOD & DRINK -- We didn't sample the in-room dining menu this time (DoorDash friendly btw) but thanks to Adriana, I was able to celebrate my favorite person's birthday with a bottle of champagne and truffles -- on the house!

(Rooms equipped with small mini-fridge, dry-bar, & Lavazza mini espresso maker)

NOISE -- Soundproof++. Not a peep from the city streets, housekeeping, or adjacent neighbors.

Very peaceful.

VERDICT

It's obvious why this property has been around so long: they deliver a sophisticated, luxurious, and rich decor you can't help but get lost in.

Wifi & TV infrastructure isn't their strong suit but those things can be improved & didn't impede on my stay that much. I would absolutely stay here again & highly recommend staying here for multiple nights.

5/5 ⭐️
