Intercontinental, San Francisco

SERVICE -- Speedy checkin (under 5m). Friendly valet but  extremely overpriced ($85/night) & inconvenient.

Housekeeping was always prompt & friendly.

The training and people skills are probably the best feature here IMO.

ROOM (walkthrough) -- The aesthetic is quite dated & the cleaning/maintenance standards are rather low: lots of stained furnishings (lamps, curtains, surfaces).

Aside from that, there are a lot of things to enjoy assuming you get a clean room:

Huge wall-to-wall window with electronic window shades that provides a great view of the city, although windows aren't functional to open.

Huge work desk and ergonomic office chair.

Great noise isolation between rooms.

Electronic-touch panel to replace the high-touch & infrequently cleaned "do not disturb signs" 🙌.

Not the most comfortable for a party of 2 but there is a lot of drawer/closet space.

BATH -- High cleaning standards in here at least.

Beautiful tiles in the bathroom & Bal D'afrique bath products included (not sure if these are just sulfates & parabens, so bring your own just in case).

The Walk-in shower is a bit cramped and has weak water pressure, but the Toto shower head has 5 spray patterns so it's manageable.

There's an additional detachable shower head + hose -- very accessible and functional.

The robe texture is so-so & the provide packaged slippers.

BED -- The bed is very cozy, clean & comfortable: Feather down pillows that are large and dense + a heavy 100% cotton duvet (good thickness & insulating).

TV -- Large LG flatscreen TV; no apps, no streaming; no casting/screen sharing. Basic programming

Wi-Fi -- High speed wifi is supposed to be an additional paid amenity, but this did not work (no prompt to enter member #) and the complimentary Wi-Fi speed is really bad:

10mbps down

8mbps up

FOOD -- Not DoorDash friendly.

No minibar, but there is a coffee bar.

Room service was prompt & the hospitality was great; the food (salmon) was over-salted and the pilaf was drowned in ponzu sauce. A larger size of protein might have leveled out the meal. Presentation was good at least.

VERDICT

It was ok... Not the best Intercontinental but decent.

I wouldn't stay here again, but it wasn't horrible.

3/5 ⭐️
