SERVICE & TRANSITIONS -- 👍 ok
A Functional anti-lobby that still possessed an intimate, "brooding" aesthetic at night, creating a dim, classy & moody vibe.
Simultaneously, it's bordering on low-effort due to the lifeless daytime staff; creaking floorboards just don't have the same charm when customer service is "functionally adequate but emotionally vacant", as they say.
The parking situation requires some pre-planning - valet is available but can be slow, and the hotel's parking rate ($70) is steep. Instead, I recommend using the Mason O'Farrell garage nearby ($38)💡.
Entrance doors require a keycard to open but the non-functioning handicap button was a significant oversight & should be addressed.
(Also, these doors are just weird & generally awkward to use...)
MVP employees: night staff ✨
ROOM [Deluxe King] -- 👍 ok
Lighting really bothered me in this one; it was more dreary than intimate, in an already gloomy cityscape.
To add insult to injury they didn't reliably power on (or work) ⚠️.
Storage capacity was another pain point for us. This configuration simply wasn't ideal for a long duration or couple's stay.
It wasn't a complete bust: the designs patterns were pleasant & seating was very comfortable.
I got a lot of work done with this workspace setup.
BED [King] -- 👎 poor
Painful...
Sheets were clean, pillows (ignoring the quantity...) were satisfactory but this mattress was overdue for a flipping/replacement. Oof.
BATH -- 👎 poor
Largely disappointing...
Excluding the huge dimensions, strong exhaust, & functional window, it was totally unsatisfactory.
Maintenance issues were abundant: unreliable faucets/fixtures, weak water pressure, misaligned installations.
Persistent insect (flies/gnats) issues from day 1.
Towels have been neglected, like the rusty shelves.
The design was significantly less contemporary than advertised + the robe was missing. smh.
TV SOLUTION/ACTIVITIES -- 👍 good
42-inch flat screen LCD TV offering strong cable (DirectTV) programming.
The mount instillation was impressive & perfectly suited for this layout/configuration, making viewing accessible from every angle.
Port access was user-friendly due to the built-in entertainment center design.
WI-FI & CELL RECEPTION -- 👎 ok
Free unencrypted WiFi portal offering nightmarish speeds.
I recommend tethering & not depending on this infrastructure in a pinch.
A Business Center was also available on the first floor.

FOOD & DRINK -- 👍 ok
DoorDash friendly.
Lacking in traditional Food & Drink amenities (in-room microwaves, breakfast service), they've incorporated several convenient refreshment options.
The highlight for us was the complimentary morning coffee service (6:30-9:30). Such a delicious roast 😌...
⚠️I highly recommend grabbing two cups instead of one – the provided cups and lids are dangerously flimsy & sleeves aren't provided ♨⚠️.
Located in the same area was a mini market, water station, & (FREE!) gumball machine.
While rooms don't include microwaves, the front desk staff were willing to assist with using the employee microwave. A community microwave would go a long way here & reduce some awkwardness, but a thoughtful gesture nonetheless.
in-room:
❌ microwave (mini)
✅ mini-fridge (small)
✅ coffee/tea
❌ wet-bar
❌ mini-bar
NOISE -- 👎 ok
Right in the heart of SF, so expect plenty of the usual inner City ruckus.
Not at all soundproof as far as the interior acoustics go.
The goal this winter was finding a Fair hotel, far enough from the on-going strikes to sleep at night.
This hotel fit the bill so overall a win for the current climate.
LOCATION -- 👍 great
Everything you could want or need is either around the corner or "a block away".
Transit, CVS, restaurants, transit, etc are all very walkable.
RECOMMENDATION
Final Price: $160.43/night
Was it worth it? no
Best part: welcoming gift (wine)
The building has "good bones" and the classic, old-world, design appeal of a traditional hotel. This doesn't make up for the maintenance oversights and notably detached service/experience. One of the few Fair Hotels w/competitive prices in the city this winter season.
If the strikes weren't in full swing I doubt we would have chosen this property.
Unlikely to return or recommend outside of special circumstances.
